Clean water is a human right, yet many in arid and semi-arid regions still walk long distances to fetch unsafe water, exposing families to health risks and limiting opportunities for education and economic growth. At Usawa Space, we are committed to changing this reality by providing sustainable water solutions, improving sanitation and hygiene facilities, and promoting behavioral change through community and school-based programs. By ensuring access to safe water, proper sanitation, and hygiene education, we reduce disease, ease the burden on women and girls, and create healthier, more resilient communities.
Usawa Space implements sustainable water solutions to ensure safe and reliable access for schools and communities. Our interventions include borehole drilling, sand dams, sump wells, and rainwater harvesting systems, supported by solar-powered water pumping and distribution. We also protect and rehabilitate natural water sources and promote school-based hygiene programs. By training community members in water management and sanitation practices, we reduce the burden on women and improve health outcomes for entire families.
Menstrual Hygiene and health
We empower girls and women to manage their menstrual health with dignity and confidence. Our program provides menstrual health education, distributes sanitary pads, panties, and soap, and works with schools to improve sanitation and hygiene facilities. We also create safe spaces for open dialogue to break the stigma surrounding menstruation and provide psychosocial support to girls, including teenage mothers, to help them regain confidence and continue their education. By engaging schools, parents, communities and women’s groups, we ensure that periods are never a barrier to girls’ education, school attendance, work or full participation in daily life.
